USA came out with a new show last year called Queen of the South, based on the Spanish-language show Reina del Sur about a the rise of a drug lord named Teresa Mendoza.
I’m starting a new project for 2018 where I will be remaking garments from movies and TV. The characters I’ll be taking style cues from are pretty bad-ass. No Laura Ingalls Wilders or Jan Bradys on this blog. Not even ironically.
Back to the QotS dress; The color for the dress in the scene was amazing! I fell in love with it immediately but finding a pattern for it was a bit tricky. Asking around on the Pattern Review forums helped me find the right name for the collar/sleeves, raglan, and I was off to adapt the right pattern for my project.
Version C was the closest to the dress Teresa’s wearing but I made it without the side pleats.
I found the light cream Ponte Roma double-knit fabric from Chic Fabrics, which is now my go-to place for Ponte since I always get a good deal and the lighting in the store is great. Though thick, it’s quite breathable. I can wear it comfortably winter or summer.
New year, new projects! I have a couple of garments already in the works so I’m a bit ahead of myself. It’s also great drive to watch more TV!
