zip it dress

New Look 6067

Usually, I base the garment I’m going to make on the fabric. This fabric has been in my stash for a few weeks from one of my summer trips up to Boston. I had no idea what to do with it until I saw this random zipper in a pile of metal zippers at Pacific Trimming. As soon as I saw it, I combined the fabric and pattern I had back at home and decided to feature the zipper on the dress.

I still have issues with the back of the dress for this pattern. The last time I made it, it was fully lined and it was too late to fix the slack in the back. This time, I didn’t line it because the cotton didn’t need it. I didn’t add a zipper to the back, so I just closed the seam a little tighter until it fit. Just keep this in mind if you’re going to do this pattern; I’ve seen the same comments about this on the Pattern Review site. I don’t know how I feel about this dress. One the one hand, I love the zipper. Just the zipper. But is there too much going on between the zipper, the midriff darts, and the pleats on the skirt? ughhhh, I just don’t know.

Mom really likes the fabrics and patterns. Be careful when she goes over to NYC to visit you, she says she’s going to steal your fabrics. lol.:)
